How To Make Money Flipping Websites

A couple of days back I published an article titled “11 Realistic Ways On How To Make Money Online (2018 Updated)”, and ever since then I have been receiving emails by my readers asking me to write an article about website flipping. I understand that there are a bunch of articles online regarding this subject, and this gives me a sense of honor knowing that there are people out there who would take my opinion about a particular subject. I really feel good about that. Thanks, sweet readers.

Technically, I haven’t flipped a website before but I have been in this internet world for a very long time, and I know how this work. The truth is website flipping is another new way to make money online. This idea has made some people rich.

In this article, I am going to break down what website flipping is all about, and how you can make money from it.

Before we get started let’s explain what website flipping is.

Website Flipping Explained

Website flipping is the art of buying, improving and selling websites. The term comes from the property industry where investors will buy a property, renovate it to add value, and then sell it at a higher price.

Website flipping is essentially the same process online. An investor, or investment group, buy an established website, adds value to it and then sells the site at a higher price. With the cost of entry into domain flipping increasing, following the sharply increasing valuations of domain names, website flipping has become more financially accessible to the average investor compared to domain name investment.

You might ask:   Why Is Website Flipping A Growing Trend For Investors?

A useful analogy to understand this trend is that of the choice that home owners make when deciding whether to build a new home versus buying an existing home. Most people looking to live somewhere buy an established home in the location that they want to be instead of buying some bricks and building materials and building themselves a house. The quicker option is to buy an established website (existing home) in the location that you want to be (in the centre of a city for homes or at the top of Google for websites) instead of buying all the tools that they need to build a website and then getting it into the location that they want to be themselves.

Note: Many Internet Entrepreneurs also build a profitable website business out of scratch and later on sell it for a great profit.

There are three ways to website flipping that you must know and follow. Once you understand the three types you can then decide which one is suitable for you.

Here are they.

The Beginner’s Approach

Essentially this is to build a website from scratch, do some promoting and then sell the site once it has traffic. This method takes more time but gives greater control on choosing the direction, set up an interesting area of the website.

The beginner’s approach involves the following steps.

Step 1:
Choosing Your Niche

A niche is just a subset of the market in which a specific product is focused.  Therefore, it’s fundamental you find out your passion and choose your niche about which you are passionate to write all the day.

Don’t make the mistake of choosing a broad topic, you might find it difficult to cover.

Although there’s no scientific way to choosing a niche, there are lots of different methods you can use. From simple Google searches to utilizing keyword research to help uncover great niches, there are many ways to build your niche list.

Let’s briefly explain how to come up with niche ideas.

Google Searches
The easiest way to start building out some niche ideas is understanding how your product is currently being sold from other online retailers. Starting your niche selection with some Google searches is a great way to get a good overview and lay of the land.

Using Google’s  Suggestions
You know when you start typing something into Google and it begins to show you search alternatives before you finish typing your query? Well, Google is completing your thoughts using the queries most often searched for by other users and you can use this to your advantage to find a niche for your product choice.

This next method for uncovering a niche uses Google’s Keyword Planner tool. The keyword planner tool is a resource located in Google’s advertising platform, Google Adwords. The Google Keyword Planner is similar to the Google suggestion tool we discussed above but is more advanced and customizable.

To use this tool you need to have a Google Adwords account which you can sign up to for free. Log in to your account and select Tools from the top menu, then select Keyword Planner. On the next screen, click Search for new keyword and ad group ideas.

On the next screen enter your product idea. Double check your settings under Targeting to make sure they’re to your liking, in particular, the locations you want to target.

On the next screen, it will be in the default tab Ad Group Ideas, change that to the tab labeled Keyword Ideas.

Searching through these results can give you a good idea of potential niches related to your original search term. Don’t be afraid to dive deeper and try a variety of related search terms.

Step 2:
Buying A Domain Name

What is a domain name?
A domain name is your website name. A domain name is an address where Internet users can access your website. A domain name is used for finding and identifying computers on the Internet. Computers use IP addresses, which are a series of number. However, it is difficult for humans to remember strings of numbers. Because of this, domain names were developed and used to identify entities on the Internet rather than using IP addresses.

A domain name can be any combination of letters and numbers, and it can be used in combination of the various domain name extensions, such as .com, .net and more.

The domain name must be registered before you can use it. Every domain name is unique. No two websites can have the same domain name. If someone types in, it will go to your website and no one else’s.

Step 3:
Choose A Web Hosting Provider

What is Web Hosting?
Web hosting is a service that allows organizations and individuals to post a website or web page onto the Internet. A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed on the Internet. Websites are hosted or stored, on special computers called servers.

When Internet users want to view your website, all they need to do is type your website address or domain into their browser. Their computer will then connect to your server and your web pages will be delivered to them through the browser.

Most hosting companies require that you own your domain in order to host with them. If you do not have a domain, the hosting companies will help you purchase one.

Step 4:
Put Google AdSense code on your website or an affiliate link from Clickbank, Amazon affiliates or Commission Junction.

Step 5: Start posting unique, quality and information rich content on your website.

The content should be written in such a manner that it should add some kind of value in the life of your target market. Don’t post useless articles. Always try and be unique.

Step 6:
Publicize Your Website

I think this is the most important part of a new website. Therefore it’s necessary you do SEO and social media marketing. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube are always the best to try out.

Step 7:
Highly Targeted Web Traffic + A Product means Sales and sales means money

Once your website starts making a good amount of income every month from AdSense or Affiliate sales, it’s time to sell your website.

Head over to Flippa and sell your website.

The second type of flipping

Standard Flipping (Medium Term Investment)

This is the most common flipping business model. Essentially you buy a fixer upper website with some potential, enhance it as quick as possible and sell it at a higher price. The choice of website is the most important element here.

The third type.

Long Term Investment Flipping

Many people buy a website for its proven monthly recurring income and then develop that website as a long-term investment. This type of investor will hold onto the site for years whilst profiting from its income capacity and then sell the website once it reaches a market threshold for an increased price. This requires more money and requires plenty of patience and skill.

Final Thoughts

From all the information I have seen, website flipping will be one of the fastest growing online markets in the coming years. Essentially the market always existed but was just overshadowed by its compatriot domain name flipping. As it becomes harder and more expensive to enter the domain name flipping industry, website flipping is poised to become the next big thing.
